Edward Johnston (1872-1944) who revived  calligraphy developed “Foundational hand” about 100 years ago. This hand provides an excellent basis for understanding of the structure of miniscule alphabet.

The lessons cover analysis of 10th century English Carolingian (The Ramsey Psalter), pencil monoline writing and spacing practice. This is followed by weighted forms with edged-pen, letter spacing, writing texts in different nib sizes, and design layout.  Works of framed art or manuscript book are created for the final projects.
