This book is a series of “The Wall”, and is influenced by works of American artist Ben Shahn. At the beginning stage, a mixture of gesso, acrylic paint and sand were applied on full sheets of Rives BFK paper. The sheet was torn to small panels and they were made thicken with layers of different mediums. All the elements in this book are based on Shahn’s letterforms, and the main text Rabbi Abulafia’s quote about the sound of letters was written with one of his letterforms.The threads going through the book indicate strings on a musical instrument.
Going through the process, I enjoyed elements showing and hiding, layering each other with a mysterious feel. I took plenty of resting spaces between, and this book took over three years to complete.
